These peace sign buttons are mounted on silver-plated stud fittings, and are approximately 12mm in diameter.
This symbol was originally developed in 1958 for the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War (DAC), and merges the semaphore symbols for the letters 'N' and 'D'. It was later adopted by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), and then fell into popular use as the symbol for peace.
